How to be successful

August 2024

Hello Dear Reader // Hoi lieve lezer,

Thanks for subscribing to our Kaapsche Hollandsche Monthly Table Talk.

Hello August 2024.

In our July Table talk, we spoke about “How to host purposefully”.

This month we “table talk” around what it means to be successful?
Tell me: what is success according to you?

This is what the dictionary says:
noun
-the accomplishment of an aim or purpose-

This is what the Bible says:
Proverbs 21:21
He who pursues righteousness and loyalty finds life, righteousness and success.

Success can mean a lot of different things to different people.

It could mean you have amazing numbers of followers on Social Media.
You must be successful, hey?

You live ‘here’, ‘drive’ there dress expensive and travel overseas. You must be successful?

Here are a few other ‘successful’ comments:

To laugh often and much;
to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children;
to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate the beauty;
to find the best in others;
to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has
breathed easier because you have lived.
This is to have succeeded!”
~Ralph Waldo Emerson

My definition of successful is the above (deep talking) and specifically measured in relationships.

Let me ask you:

How successful are your current relationships?

With yourself?
With others?
With God?

If these relationships are flourishing and healthy; you are successful!

I read a quote that said,
‘You can’t add days to your life, but you can add life to your days.

Your ability to add life to your days (good or bad) makes you successful!

How can you be successful starting from this month?

Check your relationships.

YOU
Have you forgiven yourself?
Embraced yourself for being uniquely you?
See yourself as God sees you not as how you supposedly should be.

OTHERS
Said sorry?
Made peace?
Cut out toxic friendships?
Moved on?

GOD
Made right with God?
Admitted you are in need of a Saviour?

You are highly successful!

Start making successful memories around your table, it will make you super rich,

With love,
Nelleke van Heerden
